Rendr, a primary care physician group serving approximately 100,000 Asian Americans in New York City, released its 2021 Star Quality Ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Rendr earned the following overall Star Quality Ratings for the following New York City insurers:
· 4.8 stars from UnitedHealthcare Medicare
· 4.7 stars from Healthfirst Medicaid
· 4.3 stars from Healthfirst Medicare
· 4 stars from Emblem
· 4 stars from WellCare
CMS created the star rating system to help people see the differences of Medicare Advantage plans and Part D prescription drug plans. CMS rates these plans each year, on a scale from one to five stars, illustrating the differences of performance and quality.
Rendr’s performance scores resulted from a series of initiatives to improve health outcomes, access to care and the overall patient experience. Specialized clinical, analytic and operational teams are integrated to target gaps in various types of patient care, including breast cancer screenings and diabetes-related eye exams.
Rendr’s results in patient quality improvements have been recognized by major insurance payors. “We are committed to providing the diverse communities we serve throughout New York with greater access to quality, cost-effective care,” says Chris Law, National Vice President of UnitedHealthcare’s Asian Initiatives.“ We are grateful for the collaborative relationships we share with care providers like Rendr, who are committed to improving care quality and providing culturally relevant services to their community.”
According to the American Cancer Society, early detection is key to give patients the best chance for a positive health outcome. As the healthcare industry transitions to more risk-based care models, Rendr proactively screens chronic diseases, identify health risks and treat patients in an integrated approach. Rendr launched a key clinical initiative to improve early cancer detection screening rate by coordinating with third-party diagnostic imaging centers to make scheduling mammograms easy for patients. “We’re proud to make our communities healthier and build the best practices for early cancer detection and chronic disease prevention,” says Dr. David Shih, Rendr’s Chief Medical Officer. “Rendr was able to improve the breast cancer screening metric from what is historically a 1-star rating to the maximum 5-star. We identify opportunities for improvement like this to further make our processes better.”
Rendr also developed new clinical protocols, allowing patients with diabetes to have eye exams as part of their primary care visits. Early detection of retinopathy, a complication of diabetes that affects the eyes, may help save patients’ vision if detected early, says the American Diabetes Association. As a result, Rendr received a maximum score of 5-stars for this CMS measure.
